Background

Context

ModBox is a community based, low-risk form of boxing that positions itself as a sport-based development initiative that uses its training content to develop the physical qualities of its athletes with five main aspects: coordination, muscle and speed endurance, reactive power, aerobic capacity and injury resistance.

Problem

As the ModBox community continues to grow, it is becoming increasingly difficult for coaches to provide individualised feedback and coordinate training routines.

Brief

To design a new to the world product system that enhances the training or performance aspect of ModBox by facilitating personal growth, learning and the tracking of progress of its athletes.

Approach

Through research, our group identified three main opportunities to focus on.

  1. Help athletes and coaches to track their progress

  2. Support or enhance trainers health and wellbeing habits

  3. Facilitate remote interactions between coaches and trainers

Efficient Group Training


Individualised Feedback

Follow the Leader and Agility Mat are two new-to-the-world products designed to give coaches the ability to set-up training schedules and routines with ease, both in person or over-the-air (OTA).

Follow the Leader works by allowing a trainer to input a preset routine or record a live punching routine on the coaching machine. This exact routine is then transmitted wirelessly to the remaining machines once confirmed (see the video demonstration above). Once all athletes have completed the routine, a new routine can be programmed.

This allows a trainer to demonstrate just once and then provide individualised feedback to the students that need it most.

Agility Mat

Adjustable Training

Designed to work in conjunction with the Follow the Leader, the Agility Mat provides athletes with a motivational game experience that features built-in LEDs that light up and react with the tempo, intensity and footwork movement.

Constructed of durable EVA foam, the Agility Mat can be interconnected to allow for a customizable training area to suit different locations, workouts and training styles.

Featuring an internal VELOSTAT film layer sandwiched in between responsive LED lights, the Agility Mat records data such as heatmaps, footwork combinations, zones and pressure.

‘Over-The-Air’ Communication


Remote Training or Predefined Routines

Powered by a microprocessor, the Follow the Leader system facilitates over the air communication to allow trainers to transmit routines over the air. This is especially convenient for remote training interactions.

The system also has built-in storage which allows trainers to upload predefined routines to help athletes practice specific drills.

Standalone or Integrated into a System

The choice is yours

Whilst both products can be used as standalone products, they can also be integrated together in a system to create even more dynamic workouts.

Simply connect the two products on the app to display and collect real-time data which can be reviewed as the action happens or after each training session.

Durable Construction, Familiar Operation

Bullyliner Coating, Rubber Coated Handles

Designed with durability in mind, the machine is constructed using high-strength steel that is coated with Bullyliner, a high-performance coating that protects the steel from wear and tear.

To operate or adjust the machine, simply pull on the spring-loaded rubber handles to the desired setting.

Easy Storage

Folds Flat

Simply pull the lower handle to fold down the machine. This allows the system to be stored easily whilst saving space. The front-facing wheels also allow the machine to be wheeled into place easily when needed.

Universal Design

One Size Fits All

The height adjustment knob allows the machine to be adjusted to suit any athlete. Simply pull the knob and change the height as required.
